Municipal Clerk of Courts

The Municipal Clerk of Courts has 2 divisions. They are the Traffic / Criminal division and Civil / Small Claims division. Upon the filing of an OMVI, traffic or criminal misdemeanor violation the clerk's office initiates and maintains the case file, issues summonses, warrants, warrant blocks, license suspensions and collects and disburses court costs and fines. Upon filing of a Civil / Small Claims, Trusteeship or Escrow complaint, the clerk's office initiates and maintains the case file, schedule hearings, send out certified and certificate of mailings, prepare entries, collect and distribute judgment payments.

Traffic / Criminal Division

The Traffic and Criminal division of the Court Clerk handles OMVI's, traffic and criminal misdemeanors, as well as having the authority to conduct preliminary hearings in felony cases.

The following are potential consequences for misdemeanor violations in the State of Ohio:

The Municipal Court hears arraignments for OMVI, traffic and criminal misdemeanor offenses on Tuesdays at 8:00 am for all law enforcement agencies with the exception of the City of Piqua. Piqua OMVI and misdemeanor arraignments are heard on Wednesdays at 9:00 am. Preliminary Hearings are heard on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:00 pm.

Civil / Small Claims Division

This division of the Municipal Court Clerks handle Civil and Small Claims cases as well as Trusteeship and Escrow accounts.

Municipal Court Civil disputes cannot exceed $15,000.00. Small Claims provides mediation to citizens filing a claim for up to $6,000.00. Other suits filed within this division are Evictions, appeals to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Dispute for Dog Designation.

Civil hearings are held on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm.
