How to Apply for a Marriage License

You will need to complete the online application for a marriage license linked below. Once the form has been completed and you click the “submit” button a confirmation page will appear. The confirmation page will have the information that you entered in as well as a 10-digit tracking number. Print or take a picture of the tracking number. The tracking number will be needed when you come in to receive your license.

Once you have obtained your tracking number please contact the Court or call (937) 440-6050 to make an appointment with the Probate Court to obtain your license.

In an effort to better assist with obtaining your license, if either applicant is needing an interpreter we ask that you make an appointment with the Probate Court.

Obtaining a Marriage License

The Court schedules appointments for Marriage Licenses Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM The Court is closed on weekends and all legal holidays. Please allow for 20 minutes to obtain your license. The Court does not schedule appointments after 3:30 PM to allow for time to process marriage licenses.

The cost of a marriage license is $55.00. Payable by Cash or Debit/Credit Card. The $55.00 includes two certified copies of the license, which are issued once the marriage license return is received.

Please note that if you use a debit/credit card, you will be charged a $2.00 convenience fee.

What to Bring to Court

Both applicants must be present when you come in to the Court to receive your license. Additionally, you will need the following information, and documents:

  • Valid identification. Must present one of the following: driver’s license, state ID, birth certificate, passport or other Immigration and Naturalization Service (I.N.S.) Visa
  • Confirmation page or tracking number.
  • File–stamped, certified copy of your Judgment Entry Final Divorce Decree.
  • Cash or debit/credit card ($55).
  • roof of Residency

Eligibility

Ohio residents must apply for a marriage license in the county in which they reside in. At least one applicant must be a resident of Miami County, Ohio. You may be married anywhere in Ohio.

If both applicants are from another state, you must obtain a license in the Ohio county where the ceremony will be performed.

  • The minimum age for applying for a license in Ohio without parental consent is eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Applicants cannot be closer in relation than second cousins.
  • Applicants must not have a living spouse.
  • All applicants must physically appear at the Probate Court together to obtain their license
